Rollingwood Academy – March News & Gratitude

Dear Rollingwood Families,

As we step into this new season, our hearts are full. The past few weeks have certainly been unexpected, and we want to begin by saying thank you. Your patience, encouragement, and steady support during the restoration of our school have meant more than we can express. Watching our community rally together reminded us why Rollingwood is such a special place.

We are so excited to have students back in the building and cannot wait until all of our families are fully back under one roof very soon. There is something about hearing children’s laughter in the classrooms and seeing their artwork fill the halls that makes everything feel right again.

Now that we are settling back into our routines, our classrooms are jumping right back into hands-on learning and spring exploration. As the weather begins to warm up, we’ll be spending more time outdoors observing seasonal changes, strengthening gross motor skills on the playground, and bringing nature into our lessons. Please continue to send jackets for chilly mornings, and feel free to swap heavier winter gear for lighter layers in your child’s backpack as temperatures change.

We also have some exciting things ahead this month:

• Spring-themed classroom projects and sensory experiences
• A special in-house enrichment experience coming soon
• Continued focus on social-emotional growth and independence skills

On March 6th, we will celebrate Read Across America Day at Rollingwood Academy. This special day is all about building a love of reading and reminding our students that books open the door to imagination, creativity, and lifelong learning. Throughout the day, classrooms will enjoy extra story times, special read-alouds, and fun literacy activities designed to spark excitement around books. We encourage families to continue the celebration at home by reading together that evening. There is nothing more powerful than a child seeing that reading is valued both at school and at home.

One important calendar update:
We will no longer host a Staff Development Day on March 20th. March 20th will now be a regular school day, and students will be in attendance.

We also want to share an important update regarding Pizza Days. The Virginia Department of Health has recently changed its guidelines. Under the new standard, schools are required to have a food establishment permit in order to serve pizza to students. Because of this change, we will no longer be able to host Pizza Days at Rollingwood Academy. We are deeply saddened by this and know how much the children looked forward to those special lunches.

Thank you again for standing by us over the last two weeks. Your trust, kindness, and flexibility during the restoration process have meant everything to us. We are grateful for each of you and look forward to the joyful, busy, and beautiful months ahead together.

With appreciation,
Rollingwood Academy
