Say Hello To Spring

Dear RWA Families,

Spring is right around the corner and we are all looking forward to warmer days and spending more time outside in the coming weeks! As we approach spring weather, we are also faced with seasonal allergies. Visit www.healthprep.com for some tips and natural remedies, for adults and children.

Celebrate National Reading Month this March

In honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday, March is designated as National Reading Month - a month to motivate Americans of all ages to read every day!

Raising Readers: What Parents Can Do

  • Read together every day- read the morning news at breakfast, share a story after supper, or cuddle up for a book at bedtime.

  • Talk and build vocabulary- interesting conversations build vocabulary, language skills, and knowledge about the world.

  • Model reading- kids want to do what grownups do. Make sure your kids get to see you reading and hear you talk about it.

  • Point our print- read and talk about the words you see in the world around you- signs, recipes, cereal boxes, instruction manuals, bus schedules, news, maps, and menus.

  • Create a reading-rich home- Find books at the bookstore or yard sales. Provide a special shelf or basket for kids to keep their own books and one for library books.

  • Encourage your child’s reading- Praise the efforts of a soon-to-be or beginning reader.

  • Keep books handy- Stash books in your bag to read aloud when you travel or have to wait at restaurants or for appointments. Or keep eBooks on your phone.

  • Start reading traditions- Beyond bedtime stories, consider a special birthday book, holiday favorites, or a regular family read aloud night.

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” - Dr. Seuss

Spring Tea Party

This year we are taking it back to the past. Traditionally Rollingwood Academy has hosted a Tea Party and Easter Egg Hunt the Friday before Spring Break. We've decided to bring it back and have a more formal Tea Party. Students are encouraged to dress in their "Sunday Best." Think ties, bow ties, gloves, and bonnets. Following the Tea Party, each class will participate in an Easter Egg Hunt in their designated area on the school property. If you choose to take your child home following the Easter Egg Hunt, please make sure to let your child's teacher or staff member know, as this day can be busy!

Your child's teacher will send out more information next month and post food sign-ups on March 24th. They will also be looking for volunteers to decorate the classroom for the festivities.

Gate Duty: Arrival and Dismissal

When dropping off or picking up your child, please make sure to keep the line moving. We ask that you pull your car up before getting out of the car to drop off or retrieve your child from the staff. If you plan to walk up to the door and talk to a teacher or parent, we ask that you please park in the parking lot or street.
